AL Mom

I ran across this article written by Minda Riley Campbell (if you are from AL you know who she is!) in my AL Baby magazine today. It is so funny and me. I just had to share!!

You know you are an AL mom when...

1. You monogram anything that stands still.

2. You relate more to Scarlett and her crew than to Carrie and Miranda.

3. Your child's first name is actually a combination of two first names and must be said together at all times.

4. You accept that you can look good, your children can look good or your house can look good, but not all three at the same time.

5. You camp out overnight to be first in line at the children's consignment sale.

6. You are extremely grateful to God and the creators of Spanx.

7. You dress you baby in Alabama or Auburn wear and take them to the Iron Bowl before they turn one.

8. You raise your children to be the adults that still say ma'am and sir to show respect.

9. You understand that smocked dresses are works of art but wish they were priced more like reprints.

10. Your children will grow up in the city and the country because the country is only 15 minutes in any direction from the city when you live in Alabama.

Rainy Day Brunch

This morning we went to church in the rain, baby boy had a major meltdown, then we met Aunt Emmy and Uncle Pookie (he would so kill me for actually typing out Pookie on the blog!) for a yummy brunch. We had brunch leftovers for dinner and spent a semi-lazy afternoon watching it rain!

Jack loves Aunt Emmy and as you can see the feeling is very mutual!

Sweet Daddy enjoying his latte with homemade whip cream. You cannot tell that at all can you?

Who would have thought that celery could provide so much entertainment!

Not shoeless anymore!

We finally did it... Jack got his 1st 2 pairs of shoes yesterday!

We visited "the place" for children shoes in our town because we knew baby boy's foot was a little wide and well you can't buy wides just anywhere much less EXTRA WIDE. (yes the tiny little thing is an extra wide) John picked a these shoes from Simple I did finally agree that they were cute on. I so wanted little navy, red, or khaki keds, but his foot was too wide. The workers at the store were so sweet and politely told me that there was NO reason to buy tennis shoes for a baby who wears smocked clothes ALL THE TIME, so that ruled out my 2nd choice of grey new balance and we got sweet daddy's pick!

I picked out the little white leather Keds. (Big surprise, right?) He was so funny and would not put his foot down and kept trying to grab the laces. It is going to be a big adjustment, but we had to do something before we starts walking well. (I still love a little barefoot baby!)

They took his picture in his 1st shoes. So cute!!

Clingy baby and sushi time!

Jack has been a little on the clingy side this week. I think it might have a little to do with all those teeth coming in and that we are just at that stage!

Sometimes I love it when those little hands are wrapped around my ankles and I am being followed EVERYWHERE! (yes that does include the bathroom) and their are other times I really want to scream inside! This makes it next to nearly impossible to get anything done, so I have sort of just given up and spent most of this week in the floor playing.

However we did get out today and met Sharon (who I worked with) for Sushi! She and I both LOVE it, so it worked out perfectly. Jack even let her hold him for a long time which is rare these days. (It might have had something to do with the fact that she kept pulling stuff out of her purse for him to chew!)

We were glad to see her, since it has been all summer! Now for a long nap (hopefully) and I can get some work done!

Em and I are hitting the garage sales up again tomorrow. After last week I am addicted. Wish us luck!

Hallween is coming, What will we be?

I know it sounds crazy, but Halloween will be here before long, and even though Jack had his 1st Halloween last year (and was an adorable monster!)

this year is what is going to be really fun, and just maybe someone will be walking by then! So I need some help. Which one do you like best? I can not decide they are all so stinking cute. I refuse to pay $50 for a costume that he might not even keep on!

(I am leaning more towards the crab!)

Guess What

  • It is almost football time in TN (and AL too, but if you know my husband you know how much he loves TN football, and well all SEC football for that matter) I scored this adorable monogrammed bib on Ebay for Jack for an unbelievable $.99. Is that not crazy? And it came in the mail today!!
  • Emily has been begging me for a month or so to go garage selling with her on a Saturday morning, so I did this weekend. We decided to hit up the "Tiny Kingdom" and I scored all these adorable smocked clothes for Jack (some are a little big, but we'll save them!) And for all of you (you know who you are) that LOVE to make fun of me for putting Jack in smocked clothes everyday. When they are $5 to $8 each, why not?? That is a better bargain than buying clothes from Wal-Mart or Target!
  • I got this precious wagon that has seat belts, cup holders, and was brand new for $19 at the same garage sale. BTW, these are about $139 online. I had been thinking of getting him one for awhile, but did not know how much we would use it. Well this solved the problem. Pop and Aunt Emmy even got to take him for his 1st ride Sunday night which he loved!
  • I got a sweet card in the mail today from a childhood friend and her mom. It had a GC to one of my most favorite secret places to shop for Jack! They have the BEST deals, but you have to get lucky and catch them because they sell out super fast.
  • I have sewing class tomorrow night and finally get to put Jack's jon jon together. Is is going to be sooo precious. It is reversible and with a little help from Jenny it now has some precious appliques on each side! I promise to show you the finished product soon!
  • Jack and I enjoyed the beautiful weather today at the zoo. We talked around for a couple of hours and he watched everything! We even took another walk this afternoon. You can not waste a beautiful day!

11 Months Old

It is so amazing that I am actually writing your 11 month old post. It seems like such a big milestone since in only four short weeks you will be ONE! I have definitely put my running shoes on this month!

Happy Birthday Sweet Boy!

A favorite from when you were born.
(This was taken the day you came home from the NICU)

My favorite picture of you this month

At 11 months you:
  • Weigh approx 22lbs
  • You wear 9 month clothes and some 12 month
  • You have gotten your 1st 4 teeth all in one month! 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom
  • You are crawling so fast
  • You have discovered that we have stairs in our house
  • You love to play in the dishwasher
  • You think it is so funny to stand at the shower door while daddy takes his morning shower and you just talk away to him (I know that is the mental picture people want -JHH)
  • You can stand at my bath tub and turn the water on.
  • You have found the on/off button for the TV (Much to the regret of Jack's father - JHH)
  • You still put everything in your mouth and it is a good thing I am an extreme housekeeper, otherwise there is no telling what you might have eaten
  • You have realized that daddy leaves us in the mornings and you do not like it
  • You have decided you don't need a nap
  • You LOVE bath time and it is so much fun to watch you play in the bath
  • You ate jello for the 1st time that your great-gran made as a special treat. You loved it.
  • You learned to say Pop, but you do not say it much
  • You have learned the word NO and are very good about minding for the most part!
  • You are the happiest and most wonderful natured baby
  • You love to eat and will only eat things that you can feed yourself

Love you more than you will never know sweet boy!

Where is the time?

I really don't have a clue as to where the time went this week. And somehow I am feeling a little annoyed that maybe I wasted part of it on silly things!! However we did end of with several little fun things on our plate and I even bought Jack his first socks! (No we don't do shoes and socks now) Fall and winter are coming and so is a baby that will be walking, so we will start the search for shoes too! Little boy shoes are not the cutest and I am VERY picky about his clothes, so I am open to any suggestions!!

Emily and I are headed out tomorrow morning to do some yard sale shopping. I am excited and it should be fun. We did this yard sale project this week and it turned out really cute. $1 silver flea market tray + a little chalkboard paint. The canisters were 1/2 price at Hobby Lobby and you can see that animal crackers have become a staple in our house!

I am also planning to hit up a big kids consignment sale in my area tonight! They are big stuff around here and apparently you can rack up, so we will see. This fall will be my first experience with them. I am also looking forward to helping with the one at our church in Sept.

Now off to work on baby gates! As of yesterday Jack discovered that we have stair in our house. I knew it was coming, and I have dreaded it!!

The terribly rotten no good day!

This is what Jack thinks about today and frankly me too! Don't you just hate a yucky day? But of course how bad can it be when you have this precious face pulling at your ankles and saying mom-mom-mom-moma!!

More Trip Pictures

There were more pictures I wanted to share, but could not squeeze them all into one post, so here is the last (I promise) of the weekend.

My favorite pictures of Jack and my mom. I got tons of criticism from my group of friends about the outfit Jack is wearing. Then I realized since when do I care what anyone thinks and proceeded with having it monogrammed. I am so glad I did because he looked so cute in it. The best part, it was $4.95 brand new with the tags from my favorite online consignment store! Of course my mom looked cute. If I was that small, oh the clothes I could wear!!

This is the only picture I have that I think the child even remotely looks like me (and no it is not because of the pout face) John agreed, but Emily said no way. Of course he is his daddy all the way.

My mom and gran make the most delicious fresh peach pie EVER! Think cold not hot with fresh peaches and piled high cool whip. Obviously we don't get them often since peach season is not very long and that makes them oh so much better! Jack was no exception and loved it. He even rubbed his face in my mom's dress...with a cool whip face!

My gran enjoying her peach pie!

Home Again, Home Again

Well Jack and I got home from our trip to South AL last night and we both slept wonderfully in our own beds! Jack slept until 7a this morning and that is a rare treat. We enjoyed a lazy morning then headed to church. We are sort of having a little separation issue and Jack loudly let us know that he was NOT at all happy for us to leave him in the nursery. He survived and was contently sitting in the stroller eating animal crackers when we returned.

This afternoon I worked on a couple of projects that involved spray paint and a little prep work to do something with chalkboard paint! I think working on Jack's birthday and sewing class is making me feel crafty. (we will see how long it lasts)

Speaking of, we got lots done this week at my mom's and gran's for the big party including taking up his cutey-pie outfit that I am determined he is going to wear even if it is too big! I also got my fabric for Jack's jon jon I am making in sewing class. It is going to be sooo cute! We ate lots and lots of yummy food and shopped until we dropped, literally!

Jack also got to have his 1st ride in a golf cart. (Yes, I made sure John was okay with it before I let him go!) He was not really sure about it at the beginning, but once we saw the ducks I think he loved it and almost fell asleep! And if you know Jack's daddy, his Jeepers, and his Granddaddy then you would totally understand the golf thing! The child is destined to play golf.

Excitement when Gigi came home from work!

We also got to spend some time with my "little Cuz" She is the baby of the family (or was until Jack came)! She was staying at our Gran's house this week too. She was so sweet with Jack and I think he knew how cute she is. He would sit in the floor outside the bathroom door in the mornings and watch her get ready for school. I laughed and laughed at him because he was totally taken with her.

We had a great time, but were so glad to get home and see that daddy! We have a crazy busy day tomorrow. I am tired just thinking about it.

So Cute

So I am extremely picky about Baby Boy's clothes. They must be one piece ALWAYS with the exception of pj's and that is a recent thing. They also need be smocked, appliqued, or monogrammed! That is a hard thing and can be very $$$ if you don't do lots of searching. (Hints why I am learning to sew!) I have bought some separates for this fall. We will see if he ever gets to wear them! I came across this website a few months ago and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the cutesy things Keely has to offer. I ordered this bib for us. (It was $5)

I also got this cute outfit for baby Will. Including monogramming it was $10

So, when I saw she was having a giveaway. I knew I had to try my best to win. Visit Keely at
http://makeminemonogrammed.blogspot.com
for your chance to win too. While you are there you must order some of that oh-so-cute fall stuff!!

Sewing, Trips, and Southern Living

Jack and I are taking a little trip tomorrow. We will be gone until Saturday and even though we will miss that sweet daddy I am looking forward to a little getaway! So, I know you will be so sad (ha!) but no blog posts while I am gone. (My grandmother doesn't do internet)

In the mean time...I am finally going to try and attempt sewing. I know, I know, I got that stupid sewing machine way back when and still have not made the time to learn to use it. (well except for that one time that S and I made the elephant that looked more like a sick duck!) My sewing class starts tonight and they said that at the end of the 4 weeks I will have made baby boy a john-john! (I will believe that when I see it!) If I am really honest with you the main reason I am learning to sew is so that Jack can have all those extra cute clothes and so that the hubby will buy me a embroidery machine! I mean I have already paid for Jenny's kids to go to college with all the monogramming I have her doing. You have to save somewhere right?? I have a sweet friend I talked into going with me. I will keep you posted on our progress.

Lastly, a friend of mine brought me the new Southern Living At Home catalog the other night when we met up for girls night...All I can say is there is some CUTE CUTE stuff in there!

So I agreed to do a catalog party (I have decided I don't do home parties anymore) and mainly because I want this for Jack's birthday party and it is free for hostesses this month!!

If you want to see everything SL has to offer or to place an order visit
www.southernlivingathome.com/heatherlackey

Make sure you add me as your hostess. Happy Shopping and we will see you in a few days!

Do these pictures look straight to you?

I spent my afternoon helping my sister hang pictures. And let me just say that trying to hang 12 pictures evenly spaced apart is not easy. We tried the paper thing 1st, and well Emily did not exactly cut the paper the right size so we had to scratch that idea!

I agreed to help thinking I would run right over after church, help out for an hour or so and still get back to my house in time to see my dad who was over to see Jack, of course! What was I thinking! FOUR hours later I got home. We did manage to get them all done. I think I walked back and forth from one wall to the other and said does it look straight to you about 500 times.

The finished product looked really good. I love her new look in the living room and the new hardwood floors(thanks to my dad) make all the difference in the world!

The finished product.

And my "niece" Sadie Bug. She does not like me at all and hid the whole time I was there! I am not sure what she will think about Jack crawling all around her territory!

Shopping, shopping, and more tax free shopping

Jack and I have done more shopping in the last two days then we have in a long time. He is getting to that not-so-much-fun stage while shopping. He wants to either be out of the stroller (which is not an option because I refuse to be one of "those parents" who annoy ALL the shoppers. No offense if you are one of those moms!) or moving, and, well that only works if you are strolling for exercise, not trying to browse racks at Macy's.

So yesterday's shopping was quick. A stock up on diapers since they were included in the tax free sale AND since diapers do not go on sale we'll take the 9% discount! We also got the opportunity to go with "uncle" Matt to shop for two children in our town who did not have any school clothes. Their mom is dying of cancer and can not work. I could not stand the thought of those kids going back to school with no new clothes. We had so much fun buying for them. I wanted Jack to be apart of it. Even though he does not understand now, one day he will. He is so blessed and I want him to always know that!

Today's shopping adventure was more for us and for Steph's mom. (She had a date tonight and needed to be oh so cute!) They like my fashion advice and of course I agreed to go. After all what women turns down a day of shopping? Daddy was playing golf! ha! We had lots of fun...as you can tell.

After 7+ hours at the mall we came home and crashed. I made a quick dinner and we all watched Nemo. How cute is this little monster in his new pjs?? Ready for bed!
