NICU Reunion & Other Random Weekend Happenings

We had a busy and fun weekend.

John and I took full advantage of my Dad being in town (to put hardwoods in my sister's house) this weekend and went out for dinner with friends last night! He babysat, which he is more than willing to do especially since Jack can say Pop now! We had a great time at a local Japanese restaurant and since we had an expert who lived in Japan with us we tried lots of yummy foods like fried squid and fried tofu AND the best food in the world... SUSHI.

Today was a big day and a bittersweet one because we were able to attend the NICU reunion at the hospital where Jack was born. John and I are fully aware of the fact that we were one of the fortunate families in the room, since our 4 days spent in the NICU were for minor complications compared to the other families who spent weeks and even months there. Nonetheless when you are a 1st time parent and you hear that news that your child will spend time in the NICU it is something that shakes you to the core. I think that is the hardest I have ever prayed in my life and still when I look at my healthy and happy 10 month old I tear up just thinking how blessed we truly are.

We were able to see Jack's doctor (who was so wonderful when I was so emotional! His words were the only reason I was able to walk out that door the 1st night and leave my baby there) Dr. M has found his calling in life and I know God put him there for us that night we met.

They had us make a page for their scrapbook with pictures of Jack from the day he was born and now. Boy he has grown from that tiny 5lb baby!

It was a special day for our little family.

Show Us Your Life-Wedding Dress

UPDATE: This video was on the Today Show this morning. John and I watched it before he went to work and we could not stop laughing. It is totally fitting for this post. Don't you wish you were brave enough to just let go and have that much fun! If the bridal procession was this much fun, how much fun was the reception!

I have had so much fun participating in the blog hop over at Kelly's Korner so I decided I would play along this week too. But there was only one problem...my wedding was so long ago in such a small town that my pictures are not even digital. ( I need to fix that) I know crazy right? And no I am not old!

So, I decided to show you my sweet sister's wedding dress! I loved her wedding and her dress was beautiful. My sweet husband says to him I was the most beautiful in the pictures from her wedding, so how could I not show them off. (Yes, he still thinks I am beautiful, not just that once!)

The bride wanted black and hot pink, hints the black sash which was tied with my grandmothers antique diamond brooch. My mom made her veil, we did the flowers, and her bouquet was tied with black ribbon and my diamond brooch.

This picture is my favorite! It represents three generations in our family, AND

little did we know that my sweet baby boy was about to make four. And be the first boy in twenty-seven years!

Old Friends

Yesterday Jack and I took a quick day trip to have lunch with a friend of mine that I have not seen in years. She was my best friend in high school until I moved my Jr. year, but we remained friends and she was one of my bridesmaids. It was so much fun to catch up with her and let Jack meet her. I hope we don't wait so long to catch up again.

She mentioned that I have not changed a bit. That I am still all girl, always dressed up, and have to have my makeup perfect! (I guess I cannot argue with the truth) I did not think she had changed much either!

Since my Dad lives in my former home town we also got to have dinner with family and stop for a quick shopping trip at our favorite little shopping place. I lucked up on several adorable outfits for Jack this fall.

Jack played hard and crashed on the way home, just in time for a bottle and bed time! Perfect ending to a fun day.

10 Months Old

WOW! This has been the most amazing month, other than when you were born. You are growing up so fast and you have accomplished so much this month. You have become quite the entertainer around our house!

Happy Birthday Sweet Boy!

A favorite from when you were born.

Mommy's favorite picture of you this month. (Thanks to Kamin!)

At 10 months you are:

-You weigh 21lbs
-You are 28 inches long
-You are still in 6 and 9 month clothes. Some 9 month are still too big
-Pulling up to stand on anything you can find
-Playing patty-cake and clapping
-Constantly talking and babbling
-Had your first real temper tantrum in public
-Refuse to eat baby food
-Love to read books
-Watch TV and love Barney and Big World
-Take all your baths in the big tub now
-Still love your bottle and take 4 a day
-Can stand up in your crib and peek over the edge
-Drinking well from your sippy cup

Love you more than you will ever know.

Playdate, Laundry and Temper Tantrums

A couple of days ago, Andria, who I have been friends with since 7Th grade came by with her adorable Madelyn. Jack was completely mesmerized by her. I am not sure if it was that she is a girl and we don't see many little girls (all 9 friends that have had babies or are expecting in the last year have or are having boys!)or if she was so cute he could not stop staring! She wanted to hold Jack and kept saying look baby. Andria and I got to catch up which we don't get to do often, converse about all the children's places to shop, and even reminisce a little too.

Today Jack and I did LOTS of this,

went on our weekly grocery shopping trip, and I finally realized what the temper tantrums are all about. The child refuses to eat any more baby food! I guess he is content to just gum people food to death since he still has NOT ONE SINGLE TOOTH! I was beginning to worry about those tantrums and what they could possibly be about. He is such a good baby. Can that change overnight?

We Need a Bigger Garage!

Well, let's see, where do I start..or should I???

My mom came on Friday and we left as soon as she got out of the car to rush over to Sam's so that Emily would have food for all the company staying with her while Kyle's aunt is here in the hospital, made a quick trip to Chick-fil-a (since I am having withdrawals while the one on my side of town is closed for THREE WEEKS for renovations), and then to Target for one more pillow for my upstairs that I am re-doing. All that running around (not to mention all Jack and I had done earlier that day) made for one sleepy boy who slept until 8:30 Saturday morning!! Not a normal occurrence in our house. And secretly I was wishing he would have picked another day since my mom was willing to get up with him! ha!

We also missed John's Dad who passed through town Friday night while we were out. However, I think they enjoyed a Bar-B-Que dinner even without us!

We shopped and shopped Saturday and stopped here for some baby bites, which are the most amazing little pieces of HEAVEN you will ever place in your mouth, came home to a sweet daddy who was in the kitchen making shrimp salad, homemade salsa, and Texas caviar. AND then this happened...

Yep, that is my car stuck to the side of our house! 1 tow truck + several $$ later, my car is now off the side of the house and the garage door is working. Looks like I will spend tomorrow getting repair estimates! And I am sure we looked super classy pulling up to the zoo today (located in the wealthiest Southern suburb)in my banged up car! No one was hurt and it can be fixed, so all you can do is laugh!

We also won't mention that my "PERFECT" angel of a child had the biggest meltdown EVER in the middle of a restaurant during Sunday lunch rush today and that it looked a little like this...

Nor will we mention that the oh-so-nice-nosy (note the sarcasm) gentleman at the table beside us turned to me after all was calm while I was trying to feed my child a bottle one-handed, eat my lunch with the other hand, and stop sweating from embarrassment to state that the bottle finally shut him up. Boy, he did not know who he was messing with and I thought my mom would crawl under the table for fear that I was about to tackle him! I didn't.

I think I need a nap!

1st Birthday Sneak Peek

I decided to play along this week with the blog hop at Kelly's Korner since we have a big 1st birthday coming up in only 8 short weeks!

I have been working on this for a LONG time and even went as far to sell my cherished Louis Vuitton bag to be sure that he has a fabulous party! I know that is a little crazy, but I really did not need the bag anymore and that was a good cause to make me get rid of it! HA!

I don't want to give it all away, but I will share a few things and say that monograms and polka dots will be all over the place and we will definitely be getting the cake from here!

The birthday boy must have the perfect outfit. And I love anything smocked.

His birthday bib is coming from here and she has the most ADORABLE things I have ever seen! The bonus, I actually won a bib from her as a blog contest!

That's all I can let you see of the party planning for now (there have to be some surprises), so you will have to check back in a few weeks to see how it turned out AND I am so excited because my mom is coming this very weekend to help work on some party projects!

I can not wait to see all the other birthday ideas. Enjoy!

Exciting Day

It is the small things in life that really excite me and today was full of those.
We got our TV cabinet delivered today and it looks perfect, our sweet friends closed on their dream home, we got to visit with Andria and Madelyn (more on that tomorrow), and I got Jack's pictures back from Kamin today. Kamin is Aunt Emmy's college roommate and a FABULOUS photographer! You can check out her work here.

Here is a sneak peak at some of the pictures she took of Jack, and I promise you will be seeing more soon. (Hint: Blog Makeover)

Thank you Kamin! You are awesome!!

More Beach Pictures

I finally have the "professional" looking beach pictures from our trip. Needless to say I am going to be pounding the payment a little harder after seeing me and I can not believe I actually had shorts on because I do not believe in them AT ALL! And you will never ever ever see them again. However the men in my life look adorable, so that is really all that matters!

The Search Is Over

Finally after much debate and searching for TWO YEARS!! We finally purchased a piece of furniture today to house our MASSIVE television that is in our family room. I wanted something to hide it when not in use and of course the man in our house wanted to leave it on display for all the world to see. (Guess what?? I won!)

Since Jack has started pulling up it was getting to the point that we had to do something. Several months ago we agreed on this one, but we learned that it was Internet or catalog purchase only and we just could not bring ourselves to spend that much money on something we could not see first.

Today we set out on a search that lasted ALL DAY LONG. With a 9 month old that is not so easy. He had his moments (most of you with kids would probably laugh because they were really minor things and he is so good) and so did the adults, but we found it. And as soon as I saw it I knew it was the one I had to have. The best part, we bought it here and they have the most amazing prices even on upper end furniture. It also helps that they are so nice and the owner went out of her way to get some Serena and Lily stuff for Jack's room for me at a good price.

Well enough talk here it is. Is it not great??

The only negative...it is making me want to redecorate my entire house!

Shopping and Smoothies

Jack and I had lots of errands today and that is an all day affair with a 9 month old. Jack's "Uncle" Matt called and wanted to shop some too, so we headed to the sale at Saks and then for a quick ice cream treat at Ben and Jerry's.

I do not handle ice cream well and I am trying to watch my eating, so I opted for the fat free fruit smoothie and all I can say is good thing I was not too hungry because Jack slurped most of it up.

He took that straw and sucked it up like it was nothing new. Matt and I just sat their laughing. I sure thought drinking from a straw was something babies had to learn.

Thank you to Matt for thinking to take a quick picture. It makes me laugh just to look at that face!

Stand Up and Say Mama

You guessed it. After only 9 long months of waiting FINALLY... Jack said Mama!

He was playing in the floor our last morning of vacation and started whining. I looked over at him and said say Mama and I will come get you...the rest is history!

Apparently saying Mama was not enough for one day (even though I thought it was enough for a few days) so he decided to do this too!

Home Again, Home Again!

I think the old saying, "There is NO place like home." only applies when you are not at the BEACH!! And we sure did enjoy this home for the week.

We are home from a great beach trip with friends. Jack LOVED the water and the sand, of course he thought the sand tasted good! We are all tan, happy, and full of seafood. We got to enjoy the BIG 4th parade here and watch their fireworks from our balcony.

Here are some favorite pictures from the week.(And yes I do have more to show you) Now it is on to laundry, laundry, and more laundry. I need Alice (think Brady Bunch) to come over today! Too bad she is not available!

Isn't Jack's best little playmate so adorable?

Oh, and Jack has some new tricks to tell you all about tomorrow!
